Mount Road

Mount Road, York

Sitting just outside of the Medieval walls of the wonderful historic city of York, this impressive terrace house spread over five floors had endured the indignity of having been split into poor quality apartments by a ruthless landlord.

Dickinson Waugh were called in to save the day and transformed the run down building back in to a beautiful family home.

The works comprised extensive structural alterations at Basement level and careful yet sensitive informed restoration where appropriate set against a clean modern interior.

Adam Hall Garage

Adam Hall Garage

With the fantastic main house nearing completion, Dickinson Waugh were commissioned to deliver a spectacular display garage for the clients’ impressive motor car collection.

Utilising the original Coach House and adjacent to the hall, DWA have introduced sheer and striking lines to provide a modern juxtaposition between two already contrasting structures.

The extensive use of glass and steel, with light flooding the interior through cleverly designed glazed vierendeel trusses is subtly offset by the pigmented zinc cladding to the roof and walls.

This is a shining example of our ability to provide diversity in our designs.

Legh Cottage

Legh Cottage, Knutsford

Dickinson Waugh are privileged and honoured to have been commissioned for this fantastic project; the former home of, and built for Sir Henry Royce.

As well as calling it home, it’s well documented that Sir Henry worked on many of his early automotive innovations within these very walls, and our client, a frequent flyer with DWA has big plans and has entrusted us to deliver to them a spectacular family home.

We’re currently preparing sketch schemes and working closely with the client to finalise the proposals.

Our specialism in working with listed buildings such as this will ensure the historic significance of the building is fully understood and protected, repairs are carried out appropriately and correctly and the potential of the building is maximised to meet the client’s dreams.

Almost everything you see in this impressive fit out is salvaged and shows the great results we can achieve with virtually any budget.

The building: a Grade II listed former office building at the heart of Liverpool’s business district.

DWA’s Mike Maddocks once again used his commercial expertise and design talent to squeeze every ounce of potential out of this project and we’re delighted with the results.

Pippin Street

Pippin Street, Brindle

On the site of an existing disused Victorian underground reservoir and within the green belt, Dickinson Waugh demonstrated very exceptional circumstances and a high quality of design in order to obtain planning permission for this large new build detached dwelling.

The project is currently post planning and in the studio being worked up for construction; which is due to begin this summer.

Woodford Cottage

Woodford Cottage, Wilmslow

This original detached dwelling very much typified 1980’s patiche but was located on a wonderful plot on the edge of the green belt, with impressive views.

Previous low quality PVCu conservatory additions did little to help the ageing visual appearance of this building and so DWA were appointed to bring it up to date.

The works included single storey extensions to the side and rear, a complete redesign of the existing elevations, extensive internal rearrangement and a full top-to-bottom refurbishment.

The results are impressive.

John Millington

John Millington, Cheadle Hulme

Client. Hydes Brewery
Contract Value. £1.1m

A Grade II Listed building and a Hyde`s Heritage inn, this C17th alderman’s country residence had latterly become a small Italian restaurant. Hyde’s acquired the site for conversion into a Heritage Inn with extensions and DWA’s Mike Maddocks was the man for the job!

Whilst being a Heritage Inn, the brief was to provide an light, bright and female friendly but traditional environment, with a strong food and wine emphasis aimed at the ladies of Cheshire – and associated males of course!

To lend credence to the seeming age of he extensions, salvaged stone arches, windows, rain water hoppers, leaded glass screens and church dado paneling was used extensively. Even the new ceilings were bowed as if with age: artifice perhaps, but effective.

The extensions were built in matching hand made bricks, to match the original, along with stone detailing – quoins, cills and door and window heads, with cast rainwater goods.

A small but charming external drinks and dining area completed the award winning exterior.

Contract Value. £1.1m

Winner, Publican Magazine, ‘Best Managed Pub’, an all-embracing  national award for the best management, best design, best service standards etc.

A Hyde`s Heritage Inn and former grand Victorian residence, set in 3 acres of gardens and woodland, this building was converted into a destination pub with a quality food offering, wedding venue, function and bridal suites and extensive al fresco dining facilities.

Much of the original grand interior had disappeared, and so extensive use of salvaged mahogany wall paneling was employed to help restore it to some of its original grandeur, along with reclaimed stone fire surrounds, massive period chandeliers to hang in the stairwell were designed, old stone floors revived – and  even Victorian high level flush box w.c.`s. An orangery restaurant was added, which doubles as a function room, along with a glass-backed bar looking into the extensive authentic wine cellar.

The original stables were refurbished as an additional function/wedding facility at first floor, with a cafe for families with children wishing to enjoy the woodland walks and duck pond.

An area of the garden is also seyt up to receive a marquis for additional functions .

We recently created Viva’s latest operation in Cardiff,  which has again met with enormous success.

An exciting mix of Brazilian pizzazz and colour and exciting barbecued meats, table-served and carved, this success has led to Dickinson Waugh being appointed brand design consultants to the chain – an accolade of which we are proud.

We are currently involved in the refreshing of the group`s first site, and are updating the concept’s decor to reflect  changing market tastes. Watch this space!
