The Chantry

The Chantry, Elstree

This fantastic grand house featured in Hammer House of Horror productions and boasts famous past residents such as movie director Stanley Kubric and actress Betty Davies.

Whilst it remains a spectacular dwelling, as with everything, time and tastes evolve and the current owners wish to invest significantly in order to turn this building in to the family home of their dreams.

The fabulous Dawn Ward stars in this feature production as the designer extraordinaire; which co-stars Messrs Dickinson and Waugh who will undoubtedly excel in their supporting role.

The Rectory

The Rectory, Maentwrog

Snowdonia as a backdrop provides a setting second to none for this grade II listed former Rectory close to the town of Porthmadog.

Having been formerly converted in to a Hotel, this originally modest buidling was considerably extended and altered over the years. Some of the extensions and work have heritage value; which contributes greatly to the historic evolution of the building, some of the work is a little more ‘fit for purpose’………Never mind, it’s all part of the challenge.

The Rectory has laid empty for a considerable period of time and has recently been purchased by another regular Dickinson Waugh client who’s intention is to convert it back to a single dwelling as a home for their family.

Dickinson Waugh are delighted to have been appointed to guide this wonderful building back to functional use and prepare it for a cherished future as a family ‘hub’.

Is it any wonder why we love our work?

Gravel Farm

Gravel Farm

Due for completion in summer 2015, and affectionately referred to as ‘The Iceberg’ within the studio at DWA, half of this 16,000 sqft new build dwelling is below ground incorporating a fantastic Basement extending way beyond the boundaries of the building above and including a Display Garage, Swimming Pool and leisure facilities. Above ground, living accommodation is split over three floors.

The architecture of the building is a modern interpretation of a traditional timber framed dwelling with  materials such as solid oak framing and lime render sensitively contrasted with aluminium and glass.

A profound knowledge of historic building techniques and styles is key to ensuring this building displays quality above and beyond that of a pastiche replication.

Ward Hall

Ward Hall

This is a beautiful mid Victorian; Italianate style home where we propose a large extension to provide a stunning swimming pool and additional accommodation.

Replicating original building styles when designing extensions to historic buildings can sometimes be considered as ‘pastiche’. The opportunity to re-use original salvage materials to form an extension which blends seamlessly with the original building was, however; too good an opportunity to pass up.

Due on site in 2014, another magnificent interior will undoubtedly be designed by Dawn Ward, we’re very excited about this project.

Tea at Betty’s

Working with historic buildings is a privilege, working for a client with a notable heritage is the ‘icing on the cake’….if you’ll excuse the phrase.

We can barely contain our excitement here at Dickinson Waugh as we announce our appointment as architectural and historic building consultants to the Betty’s & Taylor Group.

A trip to Harrogate or even everything the magnificent city of York has to offer isn’t complete without tea and scones at Betty’s Tea Rooms.

Our work on Little Betty’s of Stonegate in York has begun with proposals progressing well. From this we hope to be involved with this wonderful client for many years to come.

Decade!!

Dickinson Waugh Architecture celebrated 10 years in practice in September 2011…..How time flies!

It all started, as most great things do; with a chat over a pint in a pub…..what was our common goal? Simply put – Nice work for nice people. We had no idea if such a modest aim was enough to even put food on the table, let alone be commercially successful but we’re still here, thriving and looking forward to what the future holds……….it certainly looks peachy at the moment.

So what does this milestone mean in real terms? It’s merely a period of time and signifies nothing other than clearly we’re an established practice with a solid portfolio under our belts, but more than that, it gives clients confidence, it says that we’re good at what we do, we’re experienced and after 10 years, our passion and commitment is well ingrained.

What else is there to say then?……Here’s to the next 10.

No job too small!

This is a cliché that’s resonated with Mark and I recently. General feedback for the new web site has been excellent, but one criticism seems to be raised more and more……”you don’t do small projects”

NONSENSE!!!

It’s simply the fact that the bigger projects photograph better and we’re ashamed to admit that the prestige element got the better of us on this occasion.

Let all of our prospective clients with more modest proposals be reassured that each project crossing our doorstep is considered as important as the last. Your project is the most important thing to you, how dare we take that responsibility lightly?

The challenge is in the project. We’ll be adding some more of our work to the website soon. Watch this space.

Groby House

Groby House, Altrincham

This typical Queen Anne style building displaying impressive polychromatic brickwork is located in a beautiful leafy Victorian suburb and is within a conservation area.

Pre development saw this house in a sorry state, Dickinson Waugh were commissioned to carry out a complete refurbishment and informed restoration to the building, this included conversion of the existing basement in to living accommodation and the addition of a new modern rear replacement extension.

The client, another to return with repeat business expected nothing but the best quality and that’s exactly what they received, both in terms of product and service.

Managing high expectations is parr for the course and it’s nice to see a client reassured by the standards we set ourselves.

Rosanero

Rosanero, Macclesfield

Client. Salvatore Di Maio
Contract Value. £75K

Dickinson Waugh are proud to have been commissioned to help create this wonderful Italian Restaurant.

The client, already a prominent restauranteur with a superb reputation acquired this site, a listed building in the heart of Macclesfield.

The budget was tight and we had little time to play with, nevertheless the transformation from grotty shop to stunning restaurant was seamless.

We have no doubt that Salvatore’s skills combined with the impressive design will result in a successful combination and we’re delighted to have been involved.
